My Project

I teach an enthusiastic group of kindergarteners who are just beginning their literacy journey. Many of my students are learning to recognize letters, sounds, and sight words, while others are ready to build fluency with early readers. Our classroom community is full of curiosity, creativity, and joy, but many of my students do not have access to books, technology, or literacy apps at home.

My Project

This project will create a listening and digital literacy center in our classroom. With an iPad, protective case, and headphones, my students will be able to access engaging reading apps like Epic and ABCmouse, as well as “read-to-me” audiobooks that bring stories to life.

Students will have the opportunity to:

-Follow along with stories while hearing fluent reading.

-Build listening comprehension and vocabulary.

-Practice sight words, phonics, and early reading skills through interactive apps.

-Work independently or in small groups using kid-friendly headphones.

By combining technology with traditional literacy instruction, this project will give every child the chance to practice reading in a fun, personalized way

Why This Matters

Kindergarten is where lifelong readers are made. Listening to stories while following along in text is proven to improve reading fluency and comprehension. With this listening center, students who need extra support will gain confidence, while students ready to explore can dive into more challenging stories.
