My Pre K students were so excited when the new materials arrived. They immediately wanted to touch the puppets, choose characters, and put on little shows for their classmates. Having a dedicated puppet stand has turned our library area into a small stage where children feel confident to speak, take turns, and work together.\r\n\r\nWe are using these resources during whole group read alouds and in small groups. Students listen to recorded read alouds more than once, follow along with the book, and then retell what they heard using the puppets. This simple routine has already helped children practice story sequence, build new vocabulary, and strengthen comprehension. It has also supported oral language and social emotional skills as students learn to listen to peers, use expressive voices, and share ideas respectfully.\r\n\r\nNext, we will keep building our retelling skills by adding story prompts, character cards, and beginning middle end practice. Students will use the puppets to act out favorite stories, make predictions, and create their own original stories. When the resources arrived, my Pre-K students were thrilled to open them and immediately wanted to explore. They were excited to see familiar letters presented in new ways—through games, puzzles, letter beads, and an interactive pocket chart they could touch, move, and build with.\r\n\r\nWe are using the new materials in small groups and literacy centers to strengthen alphabetic knowledge and phonemic awareness. One classroom moment that stood out was during pocket chart time: students identified a target letter, named it, and placed it in the chart, then practiced listening for the beginning sound in a word and choosing the letter that matches that sound. During centers, students have also been playing alphabet bingo and using the self-correcting puzzle cards and alphabet games to match uppercase to lowercase, match letters to pictures, and build stronger sound-to-letter connections. These routines provide explicit, playful practice while also building attention, fine-motor control, and academic vocabulary as students explain their thinking.\r\n\r\nWe are already using these resources consistently, and they are helping us deepen our daily work with letter-sound identification. Next in our learning, we will use the same games and pocket chart routines to practice identifying ending sounds in words and strengthening students' ability to identify letter sounds. One classroom moment that stood out was our \"Letter & Number Spotlight\" activity: students placed transparent letters and numbers on the light panel, named what they chose, and matched them to our class charts. We also use the translucent pattern blocks to sort by color, build and extend repeating patterns (AB, AAB), and create designs while naming shapes and describing attributes (sides, corners, same/different). The illuminated surface makes the letters, numbers, and shapes easy to see and supports rich conversations as students explain their thinking.\r\n\r\nNext, we will extend this work by using the light panel for sound-matching activities (finding letters that match a beginning sound), simple name and word-building practice, and math routines with counting sets, composing shapes into pictures, and comparing more/less. The magnet kit and magnetic blocks support building, problem-solving, teamwork, and fine-motor skills. The whisper phones help students clearly hear themselves as they practice sounds and simple words, strengthening alphabetic knowledge and phonemic awareness.\r\n\r\nThese resources are already a daily part of centers and small groups. The treasure chest has quickly become a highlight of our week, and it has created a positive, joyful way to recognize effort, cooperation, and kindness.\r\n\r\nStudents are using the new resources in creative and meaningful ways. Some carefully plan how to earn treasure chest rewards, setting personal goals and reflecting on their behavior. Others share their prizes with friends or use them during free choice activities, which encourages social skills and cooperative play. It has also sparked classroom discussions about making good choices, helping others, and being responsible, lessons that extend beyond the classroom.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we plan to continue using the treasure chest to reinforce positive behavior and to expand it with new items that connect to our learning themes and student interests. Students are already asking questions and making suggestions for future prizes, showing their engagement and excitement. With these new texts, my young learners are developing foundational reading skills such as concepts of print, understanding how books work, identifying letters, retelling events, and building vocabulary. During small group lessons, students explore books through guided book browsing, practicing turning pages, making predictions, and identifying characters. Our interactive read alouds have become richer as students listen to a wide variety of stories, ask questions, and make connections to their own lives. These moments are essential for helping them grow into confident readers.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom now feels joyful, meaningful, and inclusive. Students eagerly visit our classroom library during center time, selecting books that reflect their interests, cultures, and experiences. Several students who were previously hesitant are now fully engaged, acting out favorite scenes, retelling stories with expression, and sharing books proudly with their classmates. One of the most powerful outcomes has been watching them see themselves and their peers represented in the stories. This representation has strengthened their emotional connection to reading and sparked thoughtful conversations. Your generous support did more than provide books.
