Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a K-5 elementary school in the inner city. My 24 beautiful second graders live among high-density apartments and/or crowded neighborhoods. Students often share their bedrooms and spaces with siblings and other family members. However, school is their world where they feel safe and protected. They love to learn and are curious about the world around them. They have a desk and a seat to call their very own. School is a place where they have a sense of belonging in an environment to call their own.
My Project
Due to test scores, sensitive emails or other confidential information, I usually keep my laptop and screens hidden away from student view. So although there is a classroom projector, the one computer I have is usually stationed at my desk. However, every time I need to share something from the internet, I move the computer, log in with a password, and then set up the computer to the projector, power plug, and speakers.
Our classroom would run more efficiently if I can keep a laptop permanently connected to the projector that is open and ready at all times.
With a dedicated laptop, we can easily access our curriculum based language arts and math lesson videos, look up historical figures or random vocabulary words, or share rainy-day recess activities...the possibilities are endless! Even if I am away for a meeting or absent, the substitute can share whatever is necessary without any passwords!
Also, with tighter budgets and limited funding, students are NOT going on field trips. The use of a laptop will enable our classroom to go on a virtual tour of the local museum, visit a historical site or even see the White House!
