I teach in a performing arts school filled with talented and hardworking students. The students balance their academic studies and their arts in such a mature and impressive way. They are passionate, driven, and curious. I teach 10th, 11th and 12th graders.
I'm teaching 5 classes of mathematics students.
Two of those are Calculus BC, and the other three Algebra 2. My students are coming from all 5 boroughs of the city, they are selected through some very rigorous auditions and you wouldn’t be surprised to learn that my students are some of the most creative, hard-working and uniquely talented artists in New York City. Yet our school has a dual mission — preparing students for both art and academic education — and in my classroom, my students are mathematicians first! (especially my calculus students)
My Project
Last year and this year have been very challenging years for everyone.
My students lost so much instruction last year during online teaching.
As much as they and I tried it was very hard to keep up with the requirements of a very demanding Calculus Math class. Engaging students from virtual classrooms was extremely challenging. One computer that we had for our class run out of space as a result of overloading with online lessons and videos.
I would love to interact with my students and help them through the process of analyzing and discussing calculus problems in class. Using the Mac Book Pro will help me to make it easier to give my students real-life examples, and support them with guided lessons using different apps to explain and demonstrate in real-life difficult concepts of calculus. Seeing visual lessons they will really understand not only the algebra but also the meaning of those calculations in each problem.
With an iPad, it will be helpful to write directly on it so students can represent their classwork to the whole class. This will also help me be able to use interactive whiteboard technology to deliver living teaching using an iPad. Having an apple pen will allow me to write math formulas efficiently.
