Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The middle school students who come to my class have lots of energy, curiosity and excitement that I want to channel towards learning math. The students work in teams and I balance the class time between cooperative learning, individual and group accountability, and direct instruction with scaffolding to help students who need extra steps to help them understand math concepts and complete the problems or tasks.
Many of my students want to learn the math but do not perform at grade level and require lots of extra help and guidance.
In addition, some students have a difficult home life and may not have a lot of academic support at home.
My Project
Interactive digital teaching involves the teaching moving around the class and integrating technology into each lesson.
With a MS Surface Pro wireless transmission adapter I will be able to move around the room and both simultaneously teach new math concepts as well as assess the students' understanding while moving around the room.
I will no longer be tied to the board as the Surface allows me the freedom to move about the room. Also, I can hand the Surface to the students for them to do a problem instead of walking up to the board which may cause them anxiety. Being close to the students keeps them learning and increasing the chances of them interacting with the lesson.
In addition, I can easily make instructional videos with the Surface and recording microphone to help my students review and learn new concepts that they can see on their own devices.
