Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is comprised of a multitude of students. I have one of the most diverse classrooms in the school. My students are comprised of resource (special education), English as a second language (ESL), and general education students. The ratio of students in my classroom that speak Spanish as their first language to English speakers is about 2:1. My students range in proficiency levels across the board. I have some students who read on a preschool level and are learning basic letters and sounds to students that read on a high school level in the 6th grade. This proficiency gap is across the board through all subjects.
The thing that makes my students special is how much they love and care for each other.
My classroom truthfully is the safest place for many of these kids. They treat each other with respect and value each other's differences and qualities. They argue appropriately and protect each other in and out of the classroom and in and out of school. The unconditional love they have for one another is the same love someone gets from a puppy. Even if they are upset with one another, they always forgive and forget.
My Project
I am requesting a document scanner so that I can provide a more interactive teaching experience for my students. I want to scan worksheets I have onto my Ipad in order to be able to project the worksheet and walk around while completing the worksheet on the board at the same time. Currently, I have to use my document camera, which limits me to stay in the same place,
With a document scanner, I can save blackline masters of worksheets other teachers give to me and I can upload worksheets to my Ipad.
This way I can walk around the classroom and assist students with their worksheets while completing the same one on the board. It will assist me in catching errors during the process and fixing them immediately instead of having to correct assignments and fix misconceptions later. This will save valuable amounts of class time and help me help students immediately.
