My Students

I work in an urban public school district. Currently, I work with 7th-grade students including a variety of students identified with special needs and students in inclusion who need more support to be successful.

I love that my students want to learn about the world around them and that the students in my reading intervention class know they have what it takes to improve themselves and their reading and writing.

My Project

This is my second year teaching a reading intervention program to struggling readers at the 7th grade level. The program we use is highly effective but at the end of the year, there is an opportunity to put our new skills into practice. I am hoping to inspire more love of reading by enjoying a novel they can relate to.

I am hoping to gain support in obtaining a book called "Maxis Secret" about a middle school-aged boy who is struggling with his peers.

Within my project, I am asking for a donation to provide a paperback book for each student in my class. With this, we will do a book study focusing on vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. We will also be working on sharpening our writing through thoughtful reflections on the book. Additionally, it will provide a story that students can relate to as well as enjoy. This book is aligned with other books we read at the middle school level.
