I am a kindergarten teacher and I teach all content areas. Our school is predominantly minority, consisting of students classified as 51% Hispanic and 48% African American and 1% other. We are also urban, low socioeconomic, 100% free lunch, and a priority school because of past low test scores.
Many of the students have experienced various difficulties in their life.
Additionally, most students entering my class have not been exposed to any formal education. We have a school-wide initiative to develop the mindset that "Excellence Begins with Me!" The first step to changing the students' mind-sets is helping them to realize college begins in kindergarten and no matter who you are you are college material.
One of my leading goals as a kindergarten educator is to encourage and develop independence. Our school is a relative old school with limited space and storage. It is my job to empower and assist my kindergartners to become independent young learners. The addition of the cubby storage unit will add the needed space for student to store their personal learning materials.
In developing independent learners, students learn to take control of their learning as well as their materials.
This very multipurpose unit makes it a possible to store students’ materials needed for learning in the classroom. The shelving unit will make it super easy for student to reach Have the cubby storage unit will allow the student to independently take charge of their learning materials for all subjects on a day to day basis. In addition, the cubby shelf will assist with developing a student-centered learning environment. The cubby storage unit will be place in a central location so that students will have accessibility from anywhere in the classroom.
