This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Math teaching and learning is changing. Gone are the days where students are passive learners in a classroom where teachers are talking at students for a whole class period. Students are encouraged to share their thinking, collaborate with their peers and even challenge teachers with high level questions.

My goal for the next school year is to provide a safe math space for students of all abilities to not only learn algebra 1 but to become critical thinkers.

My students are artists and creatives, they spend a minimum of 3 periods a day engaging in their studio practice to learn how to become masters in their art. Many of the supplies that I have in this project are to support students in building their math muscle in my class and to increase engagement. The whiteboards provide an opportunity to share their thinking in a quick interactive way. The notebooks will be filled with notes and practice so by the end of the year students will have created their own mini textbook they can keep with them as they move on to higher level math. Each school supply item will give students one less thing to have to worry about so they can come to class everyday ready to learn.

And finally the Macbook pro, my current laptop is old and out of date and does not allow for me to access newer updated browsers such as chrome and NYC DOE approved AI platforms such as Gemini. Updating my laptop will provide me with the ability to plan high level engaging lessons and support my students with whatever technology needs they might have.
