Inspire, Read, Learn, and Explore With Great Books!
Help me give my students a world of adventure within our classroom library with “The Little House” book set, “The River”, “Long Shot”, and other great novels that invite students to explore, learn, and connect through reading.
The 5th and 6th graders I work with have a good sense of humor, are honest, and love to humor me with my silly ideas as well as heart felt projects to involve the community in our reading classes. Some come to class loving reading, but so many struggle and for them reading is a stress.
More than anything, I’d like to open a world of wonder through books and writing for all of my students.
They like to come into reading and relax while we dive into our next great book, tackle difficult writing projects, and work through personal struggles they may be facing. We live in a small community where most people know you an your family, but also where many families live on low incomes or struggle with stresses at home that make learning difficult. It’s important to me that my students not only love when I read to them but learn to love reading for themselves and are comfortable jumping into a new book.
Imagine a classroom that opens up the adventure for all kinds of learners! To help kids overcome their fears of reading I need to give them book topics they already love.
My Project
A goal I have for my students is to help them grow as a reader, be comfortable with literature, and enjoy curling up with a good book. Reading should be a stress free adventure! In order to lessen the stress of my students I need to provide books on topics they enjoy, relate to, and want to learn more about.
Making reading an adventure for kids builds a bridge into life that will travel with them for a lifetime!
Using the Book Club idea, I give my students an opportunity to choose books on topics they enjoy which connect to history, life experiences, as well as their extra curricular lifestyles and so much more. We use our Book Club books as a chance to practice independent reading, partner reading, discussions related to the book, characters, vocabulary, and overall theme and life lessons often found in the world of reading.
It is crucial that my students feel comfortable to choose a book they are intrigued by, be willing to take chances in reading to grow as a person and student, and be willing to work on skills they may struggle with and not feel stress because of that.
