One specific moment that stands out was when a student who is usually very quiet lit up with excitement while showing the class her finished alebrije. She proudly explained the meaning behind its colors and shapes, and her classmates applauded her creativity. It was a beautiful moment of confidence and community.\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, their reactions were priceless eyes wide, smiles big, and lots of \"Can we start today?\" They were especially excited about having a warm, comfortable space to work in thanks to the heater. Many students rely on them to stay focused and energized throughout the day. We are already running low, which shows just how appreciated and needed they are.\r\nAs for what's next, our class is continuing to build on our cultural art lessons by creating a small gallery walk where students can display their alebrijes and artwork for families and staff. We are learning about life cycles by moving realistic pieces into a cycling motion for example to show that a frog starts as an egg and develops into an adult frog after going through the tadpole stage. For some students that do not have the personal experiences this is the next best thing and helps to create a concrete idea in their mind so as to emphasize the concept without having to experience it in real life. We now have more opportunities to learn from our peers as we do more small group centers where students can talk to other students about animal habitats and how they adjust to their surroundings over time.
