Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is a Title I (moderate poverty) school located in southern California. Students enter my class with a wide-range of skills and readiness. The student population is quite diverse. Our school climate is one where differences are celebrated and creating a sense of community is prioritized. Our teachers, PTA, and parents are actively trying to increase the opportunities for all students.

My third grade students especially enjoy hands-on learning opportunities involving exploration and experimentation.

They are eager to learn and to articulate their thoughts and knowledge.

My Project

My goal this year is to help my third grade students learn to work collaboratively, communicate their thoughts and ideas, and to approach challenges using creativity and analytical thinking. These are essential skills that will prepare them for success in future educational endeavors and eventually in the work force. I believe 8 LEGO Education WeDo Core Sets would help me accomplish my goals.

I hope to instill in my students the belief that we are all life-long learners and that new technology is something to embrace, as it gives us opportunities that we did not have previously.

LEGO Education WeDo Core Sets provide hands-on, discovery-based learning opportunities. The sets include familiar LEGO bricks, user-friendly software, and instructional projects, which are aligned to NGSS standards and Common Core standards. WeDo Core Sets will make advanced technology engaging and accessible to all. Students will utilize the materials to engineer and create projects as they collaborate with their teammates. Their creations will then be brought to life by using the included LEGO Education software or with Scratch, a visual programming language. My students have some experience and familiarity with Scratch already, so the WeDo Core Sets would provide materials to build upon my students' prior knowledge and to extend it. WeDo Core Sets will empower my students to innovate!
