Innovating with 3D Printers

Help me give my students the opportunity learn and create with 3D Printers.

My Project

The Imagineering Lab is a space where students are immersed in imagining, designing, making, creating, refining, and sharing. The learning environment encourages creativity as they complete various projects using the Stanford Design Thinking Process. These experiences are rooted in the STEM principles and are tied to their classroom’s International Baccalaureate (IB) units. The Imagineering Lab services Kindergarten through 5th grade.

3D printers that will allow students to create functioning prototypes of their inventions for those with disabilities.

Complete the Stanford Design Thinking Process as they create a functioning prototype that will assist a person with a disability. The stages are: empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test. The first step is empathize, where you learn about your audience and what matters to them. Students will identify a type of disability that they either have themselves or one that they are passionate about. Next, the project is defined by identifying what your user’s needs are by conducting interviews and doing research. Students will then ideate by generating ideas. The final stages will be to create a prototype, that will then be tested to see if it is functionable. Reflecting will be done at this point to see what changes can be made. We would use the funds to purchase three 3-D Printers. Students will be designing their prototype or parts of their prototype on Tinkercad (a 3D digital design program). Then, the students will be printing their parts and assembling them to create a functioning prototype.
