My Students

Our school is a public charter school located in Ohio. It is a kindergarten through eighth grade building with most, if not all, of the students falling below the poverty line. Since we are also a Title I school, all of the children receive free breakfast and lunch. Our school is a warm and friendly place where kids can grow and learn.

Third grade is the crucial year when students make the leap from learning to read to reading to learn.

It’s the year that students move from learning to read decodable words using their knowledge of the alphabet to reading to learn for understanding and comprehension. We work together on learning language arts and social studies skills embedded into workstations with playful and engaging activities.

My Project

With the cold, winter months here, indoor recess is a big deal right now. My students love playing board games and interacting with each other during this time. When students work together to play games it allows them to develop their social skills. I encourage my students to problem solve on their own and only get me if they really need me.

It allows for teamwork and problem-solving skills to develop!

I am asking for these games to give my students more options during their indoor recess time. Playing these games also works on their reading skills because they must read the directions, read the cards to play the game, etc.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
