My Project

Independent reading is more than kids choosing their own books to read and reading for pleasure.

Independent reading is the ONE classroom practice that enables kids to benefit from an abundance of language acquisition, develop stronger critical thinking, build better writing skills, improve focus and concentration, reduce stress and anxiety, and increase empathy towards others?

Yes, independent reading is the unicorn of teaching... if done with intention. To make this work, you need a teacher who loves reading, knows her students well, and has access to high quality books- loads of them! Well, I LOVE reading and I know my students as people and as academics. I can match them to books they CAN read and WANT to read. So what's missing is the access to loads of books. Help my students continue their work as developing readers by sending us these fantastic books that were hand-selected by their teacher who knows them so well.
