Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class is a second-grade classroom in an urban area of Pennsylvania. We have 100% free breakfast and lunch for all of our students. Despite this fact, my students come to my classroom excited to be there and ready to experience new things.

My classroom is usually full of movement and exploration.

I try to include lots of different ways to reach my students— through their own explorations or creative tasks to using technology when appropriate. There is time for them to exchange ideas with their peers as well as quiet, independent time. Due to COVID restrictions, our collaborative time is limited, and we need more materials as we can’t share as much.

My Project

Our current math curriculum calls for collaborative work places. These include lots of hands-on games with many pieces. These containers will house the materials for the students to be able to access as necessary. There will be containers for both independent time and for materials to support whole-group instruction.

Students will also begin to work on some organizational skills as they will need to be responsible for putting materials away correctly.

There are many different types of dice and cards. They will need to keep these separated to be able to play the games correctly.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
