Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Students today are increasingly visual learners, and incorporating technology into instruction can greatly enhance their understanding. Using an iPad connected to a smart board allows students to see musical concepts in real time—such as pitch tendencies, tuning waves, and rhythmic accuracy. Displaying a tuner on the smart board helps students learn to play in tune by giving them immediate visual feedback, making abstract concepts like intonation more concrete. Additionally, amplifying the sound of a drone provides a strong tonal reference for the entire ensemble, helping students lock into pitch more effectively. Having a metronome visible and audible to the whole class further supports steady tempo and unified rhythmic precision. Together, these tools create an engaging, multisensory learning environment that supports today’s visual learners and leads to more accurate, confident musicianship.

The goals of using this technology are to help students improve their intonation through consistent visual and tonal feedback, strengthen their rhythmic accuracy with a clear and steady metronome source, and develop greater musical independence by learning to interpret visual cues and adjust their performance accordingly.

These tools also aim to increase overall engagement by making abstract musical concepts more accessible, while ultimately building stronger ensemble cohesion as all students work with the same visual and auditory references.
