Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In my 14 years of teaching, I have had the pleasure of teaching around 100 Special Education students. I currently teach Social Skills to uniquely special students as they are on the Autism Spectrum and are brilliant! My students are uniquely gifted, very creative, and have beautiful minds! They are a wonderful group of inclusion students who need support socially to cope in their daily lives.

My Project

In my classroom, I provide sensory areas which give my students time to decompress and return to their academic classroom settings for superior learning. I believe that having incentives available will help encourage my students to address their social anxieties. My students will have the opportunity to use the items to strengthen their social skills.

My classroom is designed for the student on the Autism Spectrum with the understanding that their need for a highly structured environment is essential to help them become more independent and stay focused.

Due to covid-19, their routine was interrupted and their social skills have suffered greatly. My students need predictable routines in place to help them be successful. I will use incentives as a token reinforcement system that will help encourage my students to meet their social skill goals.
