My Students

My students come into the classroom every morning eager and ready to learn. My first graders love to read and enjoy to be read to also. They are hungry for books. My motto for my students is, "You can't become a better reader if you don't practice your reading." I want to increase my students literacy skills.

I teach at a Title 1 school in Illinois, about 80% of the students come from a low socioeconomic background.

Our school is a small rural school with the town population of 1,184. The students try their best even through the challenges they face. They are excited about improving to be better readers. I want them to know I believe in them and they can do anything.

My Project

I already have the books on CD, we just need the listening stations to play and listen to our books. I am requesting a CD player for four children to listen to stories while we do our learning station time. The donations to this project will help to improve my ability to help children to understand the world of reading and the importance of reading.

Listening to stories stimulates their imagination and expands their understanding of the world.

It helps them develop language and listening skills and prepares them to understand the written word. Even after children learn to read by themselves.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
