My Students

This year I teach 23 enthusiastic fifth graders. Our school is the lone elementary school in a small district on the southern Oregon coast. Because our community can be isolated (due to our physical distance from larger communities and urban areas), I want to provide my students every opportunity to learn and think about the world in and beyond our small town.

My goal is to help my class master their academic goals through the use of current methods and technology.

I am eager to partner with donors who can make it possible.

My Project

Our classroom needs an additional Chromebook with a license, and a replacement color cartridges for our printer. Printing writing and attaching digital images in color has proven to be a highly motivating tool for my students.

Using the color printer has been rewarding in several ways.

Students choose purposeful images to pair with their writing. They also enhance their writing by changing font styles and colors to compliment topics and emphasize important words and phrases. The freedom to alter the appearance of their pieces is engaging. It also provides an opportunity to express themselves creatively, beyond printing their words in black and white.

The color printer is particularly useful when writing informative pieces for science and math. Technical images can be displayed in color, and color-coding step-by-step mathematical equations is made easy. It is crucial to maintain the color printer in our classroom!
