Help me give my students an iPad in order to help them increase their base of literacy knowledge through exceptional online resources they previously were unable to access.
The majority of my students come from low socioeconomic situations. They benefit from being able to learn in an environment that is not only middle school appropriate, but also up-to-date with the latest technology. They need activities and resources that peak their interest and help them learn as efficiently as possible; they enjoy hands-on lessons and working in groups. Their group work typically involves collaboration through the use of technology in ways that increase their knowledge base and development. My students also learn best when they are provided with materials that motivate them to succeed and work through real-world problem based challenges.
My Project
With the influx of technology in our culture, it only makes sense that technology has become a huge component of the modern day classroom. Today, I am asking for the ability to include all of my students in the use of technology in the classroom by funding an iPad and a protective case (because they're kids).
Giving my students the ability to use technology in the classroom will allow for their literacy skills to improve.
There are so many useful online resources that students cannot access and thrive within unless they are able to log into a device and actually practice. In an environment where technology is king and good-old reading takes the back seat, the combination of the two will help entice a reluctant reader to find their niche and soar above and beyond their own expectations.
In general, having an extra device is my classroom will allow me to help individualize instruction, provide extra opportunities for literacy improvement, and keep students without devices from feeling isolated or excluded.
