My students need a LCD projector.

Channel yourself back to being 7 years of age. Can you imagine not knowing what a cow is, or where milk comes from? How much cooler would it be to learn about how a caterpillar transforms into a butterfly if you could see a video on a large screen?
My students come from a high-poverty community in urban Maryland.
They are curious 7 and 8 year-olds that are thirsty for knowledge and experience that is, by no fault of their own, out of their reach in this world. 99% of students at my school qualify for free or reduced lunch - which means that trips to museums, the aquarium, different parts of the country (or sometimes, even the state) are really out of the question. Many students know very little about life beyond their neighborhoods. This is a hard truth that holds them behind their competition in different parts of the state. They can't make the same connections in literature or appreciate certain readings the same way as their counterparts in wealthier districts that have that exposure.
With an LCD projector, I will be able to more vividly expose my students to the world beyond our city. I can show them pictures of the various vocabulary words found in our readings, and take them on digital tours of different parts of the country for social studies. My students, who were fascinated with the idea of mountains on a globe being represented by bumpy patches, will be able to view on a large screen pictures of Mount Everest. In our fast-paced technologically obsessed world, I will be able to more easily grasp the interest of my students.
You will help my students better understand their literature by helping them make connections to the world around them.
You will allow them to use interactive websites as a class and to play jeopardy to review the different concepts that we've studied. Your donations will help further bring the world to life for my students.
