My Students

What makes my students special? Pretty much everything! I use the word "my" because for 180 days a year, 7 hours a day they are my students - I keep them safe, happy, and thrilled to learn. My students want to know more about the world around them, they question the activities that they work on throughout the day, and they collaborate with their friends in positive and supportive ways.

My K1 students are part of a caring community of learners who support each other in the various types of play they engage in daily.

My students are from a diverse community in Boston and they are compassionate 4 and 5 year olds. My students work towards embodying our schools virtues: Empathy, Curiosity, Perseverance, and Collaboration. They truly are joyful learners that love being with their peers, learning and growing together.

My Project

All of this play has happy hands waiting for them in our K1 classroom! My students love exploring with building material during our school day, especially with their friends, and being able to add a variety of manipulatives to their day will only help to expand their imaginative play. The table top easels will find their home at our art center. Not only will this allow for my students to choose the way they want to create their art, standing up or sitting down (or both), it will allow for more then just painting projects!

K1 is a year full of developing, and providing a variety of hands on manipulatives gives my students the opportunity to grow in numerous ways!

I can already see my students creating robots with the bristle builders and homes for the robots with the waffle builders. I can imagine students using the stretch connect builders and stack create builders in their block and car play! I can also see the variety of art projects - painting, collaging, stamping - being thought of and created on the art easels. With endless opportunities for play, I KNOW that this material will bring so much JOY to my K1 learners!
