My students need two iPad 2's to complete our iPad small-group center, which they will use to access reading and mathematics educational apps to support their learning.
Technology is ever evolving. Touch-screen technology is the newest form, and is an effective way to integrate technology into an early childhood classroom. iPads in my classroom will take the guess-work out of using technology itself, and make the learning at the forefront.
My students are 6 and 7 year old first graders.
They are intuitive and excited about learning. They love reading about and researching new topics and ideas. They are excited to possibly have technology in our classrooms. iPads and touch technology are the future of computing and technology, and my first graders are ready to learn with this type of tool. Our school has about 400 students, grade pre-school through 5th. Since our school has had no budget for capital equipment, such as computers, the technology in our school is sorely lacking.
My Project
My school has about 18 computers for 400 students, and the computers are out-dated and sometimes don't even work. Our PTC (Parent-Teacher Club) is very active in raising funds, and have chosen to purchase 6 iPads for the entire school to use. While it is exciting to get new technology that the students will love using, 6 iPads to be shared by 400 students is not really realistic. I am asking to have 2 of my own iPads in my classroom so that I can have enough iPads to work with in a small-group of children in my classroom. These iPads will enable me to integrate technology seamlessly (as I won't have to teach keyboarding and mouse control issues, as well as program identification) and allow my students to use technology to further their reading and mathematics development through educational apps, online resources, and interactive sites.
Touch-technology is the way of future computing.
Why not start with our youngest learners, giving them the opportunity to work with technology while learning important reading and mathematics skills? iPads in my classroom with enable students to work with technology while learning important skills. Having these 2 iPads will allow me effective instruction on the iPads as well as adequate time using them for each student.
