My students need two sets of speakers for our computer so they will be able to hear as a class all of the magic the internet has to offer.

My Students

Do you remember the first time you heard the sound of the ocean, waterfall, rushing river, birds chirping, a thunderstorm, the echo of your voice in a canyon or maybe the cry of a pack of wolves? My students have not had these opportunities in their lifetime living within an urban city.

My students are all from at risk homes in low income housing.

Many do not have the economics to venture out into the world. They are classified in special education as emotionally disturbed, (a horrific label) and are in a self contained classroom with me. They all receive a free lunch and when I ask them where have they been outside their community the answer is nowhere. All of the students have family members who are incarcerated and their homes are in areas that have violence on the streets constantly. After a weekend I always hope that everyone returns to class. With all of these obstacles that surround them they are middle school students whose future is endless. Their spirit has not been broken and my belief in them remains strong.

My Project

We need two sets of speakers for our computer so students will be able to hear as a class all of the magic the internet has to offer. The speakers for the computer will bring the world to them. I will be able to bring the sounds, sights and world to them each day with minimum expense. Their lives will be enriched by having their minds become engaged in more than they see in their limited world. My students will learn that there is a world outside that is a true marvel to experience and will gain a quest for continued exploration
