Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Remember receiving a writing assignment, knowing that only you and your teacher would read it? Now think about creating a writing project that could be seen by the world. This could happen if my students are given the tools to create their first iBook.
My sixth graders are so different from one another, but all of them share the same desire to do their best and learn everything they can.
We are a high poverty, basic aide district with so many needs. 50% of our students are identified as second language learners and close to 65% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunches. Although many struggle with language barriers and nutritional deficiencies, every student is excited to be at school. In fact, last year our school had an attendance rate of 96%.These students deserve so much more in their lives. Please help me, to give them the tools that they need to be successful and thrive in this technology-dependent world.
My Project
Technology has definitely changed the world we live in. Today's students need to learn early on how to properly operate computer devices and the myriad of computer programs and apps available. Students will need this critical knowledge after they graduate in order to enter the real world.
I would love to be able to bring an Apple Mac Book Air into the classroom and add the free iBooks Author App to teach them how to create their own iBooks. iBooks Author is an amazing app that will allow my students to create beautiful interactive books. These books will showcase photo galleries, videos, interactive diagrams, and 3D objects. Students will learn how to add widgets that will add multi-touch magic to every page. These creative books will bring ordinary content to life in ways that the printed page could never do and at the same time my students will gain necessary technology skills and knowledge that will follow them throughout their lives.
Today's Common Core Standards want students to be comfortable, confident, and knowledgeable within the realm of computer technology.
Teaching my students how to make an iBook will help them to become familiar and confident in our technologically driven world. Their newfound knowledge will open doors to important concepts and skills so necessary in this day and age. Help my students thrive, please give!
