Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Have you ever been frustrated by the inability to find a book at your reading level? My students crave books that are not only on their reading level, but a variety of books on their level.
My students are enrolled in a Title 1 at-risk school.
Most of these students do not have a personal library from which to choose from. Even though there is a campus library, if they lose one book they cannot check out any book again until it is paid for or returned. Plus it has limited resources for their level. A public library is in walking distance from school , but most students' parents work unusual hours and are unable to avail their children of this service. My classroom library is often the only source available to them for checking out books at their level.
My Project
With these resources, my students will be able to check out a different book to expose them to a myriad of genres as they check out a new book each night from my classroom library.
Reading on grade level has been a struggle for years with our at-risk students. To increase their ability to read at grade level, a program was implemented at our school, but without the needed supporting materials. It is necessary that the classroom teacher has a leveled library to meet a wide range of reading abilities. Having these books will help me meet those needs.
Also obtaining an iPad for my classroom will allow my students to gain some independence. The iPad will give them a resource to check their comprehension of their reading materials. Also my students can use it to look up words that are unfamiliar to them, explore a concept mention in a book, and do further research on a subject matter that has caught their interest.
With these resources, I will be able to meet the individual needs of my students.
With your kind donation, my classroom library will be stocked with a number and variety of books to support my students' reading needs. Also with your donation, the iPad will help meet and increase their experiences.
