Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are an inner city school on the South side of Oklahoma city. Our school district is the largest in Oklahoma with over 44,000 students. We are a 100% free and/or reduced lunch school. We have around 950 students this year and we have a high transfer rate. We have the largest Hispanic population of any school in our school district. We have great kids who are eager to learn in new and exciting ways.
Last year we became the first secondary school in our district to go 1 to 1 (meaning every student has an ipad).
This has presented fun and challenging new ways to teach our students. The students have responded well. My students desire knowledge and continue to want to be challenged in the classroom.
My Project
I found an old metal science table in dredge. It will do just fine in my classroom but it sits high and we need the chairs to go with it. I will include pictures to show the table. It is in pretty good shape and we are excited to put it to use. With your help we will have a science table and chairs that will provide a great learning area for my science students. The science table sits 89 cm high and makes for a good standing height and sitting height when we are doing projects like the ones with microscope work, which we will be doing in the next 9 week quarter, ( Life science unit). Sitting at the microscopes instead of standing for given periods of time will give students the sturdy foundation they need to make better observations and a better station to collect and record data.
