Students are using it while practicing following directions, spatial concepts, problem-solving, expressive language, and communication with peers. The rules and boundaries that were set around these resources essentially include holding oneself responsible for a resource shared with their fellow students. There was also an emphasis on gamesmanship in interactions, regardless of win or loss. \r\n\r\nThe resources are available for use in the morning, lunch, and during select class visits (at the teacher's discretion). When they first started playing with the chess and checkers sets, they kind of moved pieces randomly, or mirrored their opponent. After a few days, I noticed that they were learning and developing strategies, setting traps in checkers, and making plays in chess. \r\n\r\nThey were very excited by the prospect of games in the library. For the readers, they used to come in, check out a book and leave. But now both the readers and non-readers come in to play games. While interacting with the readers, they learn about the titles and start reading the same books so that they can talk about them too. \r\n\r\nFor the future we would love to offer the students literary themed puzzles and crafts, as well as starting a book club. And have used the money to make financial choices within the classroom.\r\n\r\nI have students that have saved for big blow out days, I have had students that use their money fast for daily rewards, and I have had students that have used their rewards to share with their peers the things we do in our core program. \r\n\r\nWe have even gotten donations from our speech pathologist and she adds 3d printed materials for them to achieve as well. So thank you so much for your donation. It has been awesome starting the program off, as well as being able to continue it through out the entire year.
