Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from low-income families and take on many responsibilities at home. They struggle to find their place in their neighborhood; sometimes success seems far out of reach for them. Some come to school tired and unmotivated. Many come unprepared with the basic math skills necessary to succeed in their current class.
Most of my students are in one of the Personalized Learning Environments (PLEs) of the school and have had me as their teacher for two consecutive years.
These are highly active students who are ready to learn. Still, there are several students struggling and need extra assistance and ambition to succeed in class.
My Project
Students will be able to use these computers to practice basic and current level Math using our online program. Using technology to polish up on Math skills enhances student interest and keeps them engaged. Allowing for more technological use stimulates the mind and gets the students excited and eager to practice more Math.
Moving away from pencil and paper gives students a chance to see that Math is more than just book work, but can be fun too.
Students can self pace their progress in our program to help them catch up to grade level Math. Individual computer time will allow lower level learners to grasp difficult concepts as they connect more and more to our online program . These HP laptops will help students gain the confidence to succeed in Math as they practice more with our online program and view tutorials/videos/games that guide them through Math at their own pace without the pressure of keeping up with the rest. It will give them individual time to practice what they need.
