Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"I don't have snack today." I hear these words everyday from at least 5 of my first grade students. Working at a school where 78% of students receive free/reduced lunch, my students that don't bring a snack to eat don't have much food at home. Lunch is often the biggest meal of the day for them.

My class is made up of 21 amazing students!

They attend a culturally diverse school in a low economic section of North Carolina. Many of my students are bilingual and a few of them have learning disabilities. Although many of them have a few obstacles in their lives, it does not distract them from working hard and giving everything they have in class. They come to school everyday with a smile on their faces, eager to learn. They don't ask for much and are so appreciative for all that is given to them.

My Project

With your help, I will be able to provide snacks to all of my students who cannot afford to bring any in from home. At my school, my First grade class is the last class to eat lunch and that occurs at 1:15 P.M. School begins at 8:30 A.M. and many of my students leave home earlier to ride the bus to school. Although coming to school full of energy each morning, they become drained and tired after intense learning. Providing snacks to all of my students will boost their energy, increasing their ability to process and learn new information.
