I Can Write Music! Technology to Improve Our Music Literacy!

My Project

The music program is a powerful unifier in our school. My students create a family at our school. We are a performing arts family (bands, choirs, strings, theatre, and dance) that support each other on the stage, in the classroom, and beyond. We are a NJ high school, just outside NYC, servicing a multicultural population of students from varying socioeconomic backgrounds. We strongly believe that the arts can instill positive change, transform, inspire, and change lives. We are going to build this program over a strong foundation and proud history and generations of art students.

An educator and student subscription to Flat for Education will provide our students with technology and tools to grow and develop their music literacy skills.

Developing our students' music reading ability is so important. Students who can read music are empowered to learn their parts without relying solely on audio tracks or rote learning. This builds confidence and self-reliance. Developing literacy lays the foundation for lifelong musicianship. Whether they pursue music professionally or as a passion, they’ll be able to engage with it more deeply.

Developing our students' ability to create is so important. Creativity is essential to music education because it fosters self-expression, critical thinking, and emotional depth in students. It allows them to explore their unique perspectives through composition, improvisation, and interpretation, making music a personal and meaningful experience.
