My Students

My kindergarten students attend a pre-K through 12th grade school in central Minnesota. We have a high percentage of low-income families. Our school is the hub of our small town community.

My kindergartners are excited about learning!

Their curious minds are full of questions and, as they search for the answers, they are discovering how to become problem solvers. Our kindergarten room is full or hands-on activities that promote learning and social interaction. Through exploring, experimenting and playing, my students are learning how to become readers, writers, mathematicians, scientists and good citizens.

My Project

Providing students with engaging books at their reading level inspires confidence and, as a result, encourages more reading! Fostering a love of reading is a major goal of our kindergarten curriculum.

The guided reading science library provides both individual and small group reading opportunities and introduces students to non-fiction text as a means of exploring the world around them.

The wide range of subject matter is sure to inspire my little scientists.

I chose the emergent readers D set to challenge my readers who are ready to read more challenging books. Surrounding kindergarten readers with books that are at their reading level builds confidence and promotes more reading.
