My Project

I taught middle school English Learner (EL) students for many years and have recently moved over to teaching younger ELs in first grade. I've taught early literacy and language skills to newcomers (EL students new to the country) with these materials before but had to leave them behind with the district when I left my middle school building. Many of these materials I am requesting have been used in my class to teach students the letter sounds in the English alphabet, new vocabulary words and how to compose a simple sentence. It would be great to have access to these items again!

I once had a student who later on moved up a language level come back to tell me, "Mrs. Lo, you taught me how to read!" I give credit to awesome teaching materials such as these sound teaching tubs that have hands-on realia for students to be able to see, touch and talk about.

Once I receive these teaching tubs, I will be using it to teach my intensive ELD small group of students (including newcomer ELs) who are still working on Kindergarten skills such as identifying letter names and sounds!

My hope for this small group is that by the end of first grade, they are able to identify all the letter names, sounds, decode and encode CVC pattern words and compose a simple sentence on their own! These materials would be one of the first instructional tools I will use to get them there!
