Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My class consists of thirteen (13) special needs boys and girls ages 5 to 8 (Kindergarten to 2nd grade). The class consist of 60% Hispanic and 40% other (Asian, Caucasian, etc). Of the 60%, one-third of the parents are limited/do not speak English at home. The average household is below poverty level and cannot afford extras.
My students with autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) need activities that are hands-on and allow them to move.
My students love to be creative in building with legos, blocks and anything else they can put together.
My Project
My students love to build and be creative within their building. With the legos, they use their imagination and create villages. Cars, families, buildings, and houses are some of the things they love to build. Magnetic tiles allow my students to have other sensory feels to create their villages, robots, mammoths and extend their imagination.
My students are building relationships as well as buildings.
My students struggle with the ability to play and communicate with others. Legos and magnetic tiles bring them together for a common goal. They learn to share, communicate their needs/wants and play to build their villages, robots or other creative projects.
