My students need 30 Chromebooks to develop typing and computer skills. Our low income school has no computer lab.

My Students

"If we marry educational technology with quality, enriching content, that's a circle of win." My students are eager to learn, but unfortunately our school does not have room for a computer lab. The students need computer skills. I have found some old keyboards, but of course they are just not enough.

My students are the sweetest and most compassionate 8 year olds I have had in years.

I have watched them take care of each other. When they get a new pencil, they are thrilled! These kids are also extra hungry to learn and are enjoying the whole school experience. Many of them come from homes where basic needs are a struggle, but they are here every day, many here before my day even begins. My dream is to have a computer lab, but we have so many students there is not enough room for a lab...so the next best thing is a lab on wheels.

My Project

To have 30 Chromebooks would be a dream come true! Please read my story. Imagine this . . . you are expected to take a big test in the spring and you are told the test needs to be taken on a computer. One catch, you have no computer to practice on. Setting up for failure right? Well, this is what my kids are up against. Our school is in a low income, high free lunch area which has no room for a computer lab. With Chromebooks to practice skills, my students will have at least a chance to pass. I believe our students need computer skills, and many of these kids do not have computers at home. Some say, "Go to the library down town to practice." Good idea in theory, but many have no way to get to the library. Teachers' always have a plan B right? I found some old keyboards for the students to at least practice keyboarding skills, and I think it has helped some, but it's just not enough.

These Chromebooks will help my students pass a very important test in the spring time.

I feel my students (since being forced to take the test on a computer) should be given opportunities to practice and learn how to type. Without computers to practice, the students are not being given the chances they deserve to be successful. My kiddos will not only learn basic computer skills, they will also learn beginning research skills. I want to help develop computer literacy in my students. God bless!
