My Students

I believe you can fly.....I believe you can touch the sky.......My resource students love to watch the metamorphosis of caterpillars turning into beautiful butterflies. I want my students to believe with the right guidance and believing in themselves they can soar high and fly. Every year I buy a butterfly metamorphosis kit for my students to witness and make daily observations in their journals. This year, I would like each student to have the responsibility of taking care of their own butterfly kits and help students learn about the butterfly's life cycle, behavior, and biology. I also would like to tie in the character educational piece of believing in yourself and fly high!

My Project

Each student will have the responsibility of observing and recording the life cycle of the butterfly. My students need 11 personal butterfly kits to monitor and observe and record the metamorphosis of a caterpillar to a butterfly. They will have to follow the proper care from the arrival of the eggs, changing to larva, changing to the pupa, and to the last stage of an adult butterfly, Students will record each stage of metamorphosis. Students will be expected to keep a journal of the process with daily writing and illustrations. When they complete metamorphosis, each student will have the opportunity to release their butterflies. We will all sing "I believe I can fly", as we release our butterflies in the park!
