Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Our school is a Title I school with all of our students receiving free or reduced price lunch. Our school is an inner-city magnet school with weekly classes in art, music, dance, and drama as well as rigorous academics in each of the K-5 classroom settings. It is an exciting place to learn!

Our special education students have individualized education plans (IEPs) and receive additional services in their areas of disability.

This direct service time is where identified students with disabilities receive instruction on their deficit skills in math, social skills, reading, comprehension, and language. Some of these students also receive related services for physical therapy, occupational therapy, or speech therapy, which also might occur in the exceptional education classroom. Our students work hard and are excited to learn.

My Project

Helping my students stay hydrated throughout their school day is becoming a daily challenge. I am looking for a green solution for my neediest students to stay hydrated throughout their day. Currently, students can bring water bottles to fill in the water fountains at school, but some students do not have water bottles to do this. I've been providing them with bottles of water or cups to fill, but this is neither a long-term solution for me financially nor a green solution (even though the bottles/cups are recycled after they are empty). Being able to provide students with reusable water bottles would be a solution to this problem.
