Ms. Nastor from Oakland CA is requesting Books through DonorsChoose, the #1 classroom funding site for teachers.

Hungry for Novels

My students need 30 copies of "The Hunger Games,' 8 copies of "Catching Fire," and 8 copies of "Mockingjay," to get excited about analyzing literature.

My Students

My students are hungry for good novels like the Hunger Games series.

My 8th graders attend an urban public middle school.

Some of them are avid readers and others read several grades below their grade level. All of them know a good story when they see one and will get motivated to do their work when the stories are engaging and exciting like the Hunger Games.

My Project

With a class set of Hunger Games, my class can read, analyze and write about something that they are interested in. Students will get a chance to fully engage in discussions about the Hunger Games in Socratic seminars, where they will evaluate and the themes from the book such as rich vs. poor. Students will have an opportunity to apply what they learned by creating their own version of the Capitol, Districts and the Hunger Games. Having extra copies of the sequel Catching Fire, and the third book in the series, Mockingjay, will allow my students access to even more literature for independent reading.

This donation of a class set of the Hunger Games, plus extra copies to check out of the other two books in the series gives students access to a current novel, an engaging novel, and important themes that are relevant.

By studying the Hunger Games, and reading the nest two book in the series on their own students may ignite a life-long hunger for reading!
