Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are energetic, eager to learn, and fun-loving. However, teaching in a low-income area where most of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch, basic supplies, technology, and differentiated supplies are not easily available to them. Despite the difficulties they face each day, my students come to school with a smile on their face ready and eager to learn.

Most of my students and their families are here looking for a better and brighter future.

I want to give them the resources they need for them to accomplish this goal.

For this reason, I work extra hard to raise money for supplies that will be used by my students. These supplies benefit my students in so many ways, and it also teaches them a deeper lesson of how good the world can be. Over the years when I have told my students that we have gotten a project funded and we were getting supplies, the looks on their faces were priceless. My students are so appreciative, and donations from kind-hearted people really impact their lives in such a major way!

My Project

Having snacks available during school time will help my students fight their hunger during the day. Since we are sixth grade, we have the last lunch in the building and if a student has not had any food, it can be very hard to stay focused. These snacks will be able to help them stay focused and help the, work to the best of their ability.

Students just cannot work on an empty stomach!

Research has shown that hunger can delay development on the cognitive, social and emotional level. This includes reading, language, attention, memory and problem-solving capabilities. Hunger results in a lower IQ and less developed brain matter then well-nourished brains.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
