My Project

I am part of a team of teachers supporting first graders at our school. Our students' families have chosen online learning for their children for a variety of reasons such as health concerns, family schedules, and unique learning needs. Our students learn from home using both traditional materials such as books, paper, crayons, and pencils, and technology, using an iPad. We provide instruction by meeting with them in a Google Meet classroom, which is similar to Zoom. Like students in a brick and mortar school, our students represent a wide range of strengths, previous learning experience, and needs. Sometimes it is hard for our students to participate in and complete their lessons because they lack basic supplies that would be readily available in other schools.

Our students are asking hands-on materials for learning basic math concepts such as place value and two- and three- digit addition and subtraction.

They need sets of base ten blocks that we can use to make individual kits for our learners. Base ten blocks are used to show ones, tens, and hundreds to help students show one-, two-, and three-digit numbers. Students can use base ten blocks to add numbers together. Base ten blocks makes learning numbers fun and easier to understand. Each student will have a set of blocks in a zipper pouch that they can use at home for their learning. They are also asking for magnetic letters to use during their phonics lessons. Thank you for caring about our students and helping them learn.
