How Hot Are Our Reading and Math Skills?

My students need Hot Dot self checking math and literacy activities in order to extend learning during math and reading center time.

My Students

"Teacher, teacher, is this right?" "What about this one, did I do that right?" Students are eager to obtain teacher validation when working on math problems; however, when doing small groups it is necessary for students working independently to be able to self-check.

I work in a high poverty Title I school that consists of more than 60% English Language Learning students who all receive free lunch.

While many of them face the challenge of overcoming a lanuage deficiency, they do not allow that to stop them from being eager learners.

My Project

Remember how you were when you were in school and got the answer correct, how happy you felt inside and how proud you were to tell the world that you got the correct answer? I want my students to be able to feel that same gratification during small group/center time when they are working with a small group of students without teacher guidance. Hot Dot manipulatives are the perfect engaging avenue for self-checking and receiving immediate feedback on how they are doing regarding both math and literacy standards. These cards pose a question or problem and the student uses a battery operated pen to choose the correct answer, the pen then tells the student if the answer they chose is correct or incorrect.

Student's love to know that they are being successful, they love knowing that they got the correct answer on a problem or question.
