This is my third year teaching at this school. It's my twenty-second year of teaching and the first time that I am not sharing a teaching space. It is a Title One school where all of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch. As an English as a Second Language teacher, I work with a vast range of students from many different cultures.
We have students speaking languages such as Hmong, Spanish, Rohingya and Somali.
As an EL teacher and Interventionist, I work with these students on language acquisition, oral language and reading and math skills.
My Project
Having a horseshoe table allows me to have more direct student contact while working in our small groups. The students stay within arm's reach. I am always directly facing the students which minimizes student behaviors and increases engagement and instruction. Having a horseshoe table would also allow me to monitor their progress and keep them on task throughout the lesson. Each year I am assigned to multiple grade levels. A horseshoe table is flexible for all ages and sizes of students. The table I have chosen has easily adjustable legs. I know this will be a good addition to my classroom because I have had the privilege of using a horseshoe table in previous schools.
