My Students

My classroom is full of learning. Every day my students amaze me with their thinking connections. I encourage student-centered project-based learning where students ask questions and work hard to find answers.

My school is located in Flint, Michigan.

It is a Title I school, meaning that almost all students come from high-risk families and are low income. Many times it's a struggle to get students to school daily, let alone keep them engaged and enthusiastic about their education. My students are some of the most resilient people I know, and every day I strive to light that "spark" in their brains so they will believe that they can be and do anything they put their minds to. I tell them all the time that they are not a product of their environment and that the key to success is education.

My Project

My students are in need of warm clothes to wear this winter. Many of them come to school with only t-shirts on and clothes are are too small for them. They would appreciate a variety of sizes that would fit them comfortably.

In order to learn at their maximum ability, warm clothes are essential.

Well-fitting clothing will help my students, who are self-conscious, feel better about themselves and keep them warm. Many times, my students' families are working hard to provide food and shelter for them, and clothing is second to that.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
