My Project

My classroom is a unique early childhood program that is taught by a speech language pathologist rather than a regular education teacher. My students are 3-5 year olds that have been identified with significant communication disabilities. This is my first year leading this incredible program and one thing that I have used on a daily basis is miniature items that correspond to our thematic units.

Mini items are incredibly versatile for preschool speech therapy.

I have a currently small collection of minis and hope to add items that correspond to our seasonal activities and weekly themes. I use these items in lieu of flashcards for practicing sounds (for example, collecting minis that all start with /b/ -- bird, bear, bunny, bee). They can also be used for practicing concepts and following directions ("Put the bear next to the penguin."), teaching vocabulary, acting out songs and finger plays, and as props for our sensory bins and play doh.
