Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

8th Grade student participate in several community service projects throughout the year.

We want our students actively working in their communities to learn empathy, the power of service and leadership skills.

This year, we will be making holiday cards for the military. We need card stock to create the cards. We will send the cards overseas to active military through the USO. The plan is to make 1 card for every student at our school. 8th grade students prep the card stock and create bundles for each crew class to design and sign the cards.

We are also running a booth at our holiday fair. We will be making scrunchies, earrings, candles, birdhouses and hand painted holiday jars. We need a sewing machine, fabric and elastic string to make our scrunchies and pet scarfs. We need charms to make earrings. The goal is that our students will make all the items themselves so they learn how to sew, make candles/soap and jewelry. They will also run the booth at the fair, organizing the set up, shifts and tear down.

They donate any money raised to Rady Children's Hospital, Wounded Warrior, Burn Institute and The San Diego Humane Society. My students are special because they invest their time and energy over the course of this year working on projects that make their community a better place through service.
