My Students

The students in my classroom face various challenges in their lives that impact their education. The majority speak a language other than English in their homes and receive free or reduced lunch. Many of these students have attended multiple schools over the course of their short academic careers. Some do not have enough food to eat once they leave our building. However, it is not these circumstances that define them.

These same students love investigation, diving into a good book, being challenged with math tasks and showing responsibility as members of our classroom community.

They practice kindness and teamwork daily, and are the first to step up to help their classmates, or myself, in times of need. They work hard to meet high expectations and they set goals to better themselves socially, academically, and emotionally. They enter the classroom each day with smiles on their faces, prepared to learn. My students make our classroom a magical place to be.

My Project

In my classroom there are several readers who need a bit more support than the other students. Providing high-quality, readable literature for these students is essential for their growth as readers. Our classroom library is already full of higher-level reading materials, but we are lacking books that appeal to fourth grade struggling readers.

With this new addition to our classroom library, these students will be able to browse the classroom library daily, finding a variety of books that are at their independent reading level and that also interest them individually.

This way, they will be able to consistently read and feel successful doing so. They are so eager to read and excited to crack open a book each day, and they will love having immediate access to books that that they can read all by themselves.
