These items have greatly enriched our learning as we explored weather and different weather patterns throughout the year. With these hands-on materials, students were able to think and work like scientists as they observed, discussed, and explored the types of weather we experience during different seasons.\r\n\r\nThrough this project, students also learned about meteorologists and the important role they play in creating and presenting weather forecasts. Using the donated materials in our dramatic play center, students dressed up as meteorologists, created their own forecasts, and confidently presented them to their peers. This experience supported not only science learning but also language development, creativity, and confidence as students explained their thinking and shared observations.\r\n\r\nIn addition, students learned about weather tools such as thermometers, rain gauges, and windsocks. Having access to these tools allowed students to collect data and study weather patterns over extended periods of time, helping them build observation, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. Your generosity provided meaningful, hands-on learning experiences that made science engaging and memorable for our students. Pod tickets are earned when students demonstrate respectful and responsible behavior, and having their own tracker has been incredibly motivating. Students love taking ownership of their progress and enjoy watching their tickets add up as they work toward both individual rewards and whole-class goals.\r\n\r\nYour support has helped foster responsibility, independence, and positive behavior in our classroom. Many of my students do not have access to STEM activities outside of school. Being able to introduce these STEM centers dramatically increased engagement within the classroom. The STEM centers became choice centers for students who completed all of their work. This was highly motivating for many students.\r\n\r\nThree students were often disengaged with learning and completing their work until I introduced the marble run. Since then, they stay on top of their assignments and focused better. I had another set of students who were very quick to complete their work, but would be very disruptive while others were working. Once I introduced the Ozo Bot, they immediately wanted to work with it. This gave them an extra challenge once their work was finished and forced them to not rush through assignments. \r\n\r\nIn addition to creating engagement and fostering an active learning environment. These STEM centers are pushing them to problem solve and work together. At first, I created challenges for them to accomplish each week. Now, they are creating their own challenges for each other. I had two kids spend their Fun Friday time seeing if they could make a marble run that would go all the way across our 15ft white board. These centers are also increasing their ability to persevere through challenges because both the marble run and the Ozo Bot are not easy. They take time, patience, and creative thinking to create paths that will work effectively.\r\n\r\nI'm so happy with how these STEM centers have impacted my students, that I am hoping to get another Ozo Bot and more marble run components. That way more students have access to these activities at the same time. I'm also looking forward to the springtime when we start our unit on space science. I will be able to use the Ozo Bot expansion packs ('Ozo Bot goes to the Sun, Earth, and Moon' and 'Ozo Bot goes to the Solar System') to increase learning! I cannot thank you enough for what you have given to my students.","fullyFundedDate":1755723879298,"projectUrl":"project/stem-centers-for-5th-graders/9479118/","projectTitle":"Stem Centers for 5th Graders","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Sher","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9652544_orig.jpg?crop=1080,1080,x292,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1723517710391","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9652544"},{"teacherId":9880874,"projectId":9283931,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting our Sensory Sand Adventures for Growing Minds project. We are currently using the sensory sand and the letter and number forms during our Play-to-Learn time each day. Students scoop, pour, trace, and build in the sand while using the forms to explore letter shapes, number formation, and early counting concepts. One meaningful moment was watching students carefully trace letters and numbers in the sand, then proudly name what they had made and explain their thinking to classmates.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, they were filled with excitement and curiosity. They were eager to touch the sand and immediately noticed the letter and number forms, asking questions and sharing ideas about how they could use them. Some students who often need extra support with focus became calm and deeply engaged, while others excitedly practiced forming letters and numbers through play. The materials created a welcoming, hands-on learning experience where all students could participate successfully.\r\n\r\nNext, my goal is to expand the use of the sensory sand, forms, and tools into learning centers throughout the day. Students will use the sand to practice forming letters, numbers, and simple words, strengthen fine motor skills, and explore early literacy and math concepts in meaningful ways. These resources have been a wonderful addition and are now a regular part of our daily routine. Students use the wiggle chairs and cushions during group lessons, literacy stations, and independent work time, while the seat bands are especially helpful during writing and math. The materials support movement and focus, which has helped many students stay engaged for longer periods and better manage their own energy. They've been especially impactful for students who struggle with sitting still or staying regulated—now they have tools that help them participate more fully and comfortably.\r\n\r\nThe children have genuinely enjoyed using the flexible seating tools. They're beginning to take more ownership of their learning by making thoughtful choices about where and how they work. The wiggle chairs allow them to move while staying focused, helping them stay engaged throughout the day. One student who previously avoided group work now joins in regularly after choosing a wiggle chair, and another who needed frequent movement breaks now completes writing time successfully with the support of a seat band. These changes may seem small, but they represent meaningful growth in independence, confidence, and focus.\r\n\r\nThanks to your donation, our classroom feels more responsive to the needs of every learner. The students understand that these tools were given by people who care about their learning, and that sense of support matters.
