Is the glass half empty or half full? I'm requesting books that help develop a growth mindset. These colorful stories provide situations calling for a positive approach to understanding and solving problems. I believe in teaching students to believe they are capable of doing difficult things. Books like I Can't Do That, YET: Growth Mindset and After the Fall (How Humpty Dumpty Got Back Up Again) will allow us to discuss how approaching adversity with a "growth" mindset (opposed to a "fixed" mindset) is a better way to achieve results. This type of literature is a fun, yet strong method to encourage and motivate students. It also provides ample opportunity for my students to be involved acting out the different scenarios. It's not trite to believe we learn from our mistakes, but we need to be willing to make them. Our children lead increasingly complicated lives. Learning to overcome obstacles and approach the world with a positive mindset is a critical life skill. These books will make a difference in how my students look at and tackle adversity. So much more can be achieved when we approach life with a growth mindset and choose to see the glass half full.
