These resources have been a wonderful addition and are now a regular part of our daily routine. Students use the wiggle chairs and cushions during group lessons, literacy stations, and independent work time, while the seat bands are especially helpful during writing and math. The materials support movement and focus, which has helped many students stay engaged for longer periods and better manage their own energy. They've been especially impactful for students who struggle with sitting still or staying regulated—now they have tools that help them participate more fully and comfortably.\r\n\r\nThe children have genuinely enjoyed using the flexible seating tools. They're beginning to take more ownership of their learning by making thoughtful choices about where and how they work. The wiggle chairs allow them to move while staying focused, helping them stay engaged throughout the day. One student who previously avoided group work now joins in regularly after choosing a wiggle chair, and another who needed frequent movement breaks now completes writing time successfully with the support of a seat band. These changes may seem small, but they represent meaningful growth in independence, confidence, and focus.\r\n\r\nThanks to your donation, our classroom feels more responsive to the needs of every learner. The students understand that these tools were given by people who care about their learning, and that sense of support matters. As we continue with our current unit on growth and change—both personal and academic—your gift has helped reinforce an important message: that our classroom is a place where every child can feel comfortable, capable, and ready to learn.","fullyFundedDate":1739212826812,"projectUrl":"project/seating-for-success-empowering-movement/9016112/","projectTitle":"Seating for Success: Empowering Movement and Focus in Kindergarten!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Laughery","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9880874_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1756571782705","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-laughery"},{"teacherId":3411018,"projectId":8897574,"letterContent":"I cannot thank you enough for your donation to buy these materials for my classroom and the impact it has made. \r\n\r\nEach month, I change our Dramatic Play center to a new theme, and each month I have been able to add the new materials from your donation. The students were ecstatic to find a \"real\" shopping cart and \"grocery basket\" along with play food during our Grocery Store theme in November. \r\n\r\nIn December, we did a Bakery. Students were able to make cookies, adding frosting with the Melissa and Doug cookie set. They were also able to use the shopping cart as a Bakery Delivery Truck. They were also able to make coffee with their new espresso machine and bake cakes with their new mixer. \r\n\r\nThis month, we have an ice skating rink. Every day students come and get bundled up in the gloves, scarves, and hats from your donation in order to ice skate and play hockey. \r\n\r\nI have watched their play grow in creativity and maturity; they are fulfilling the roles of the center so well and truly becoming a part of that world. This is so great for their confidence, social development with peers, and creative development. It is so much fun to watch. They are also incorporating writing and math into their play because they have materials to engage with that naturally promote learning. \r\n\r\nOur upcoming units are an Animal Hospital in February, a Restaurant in March, a Post Office in April, a Garden Shop in May, and a Campground in June. Each month I have new materials from your donation to include in our setup and to enhance their play. I can't wait to see how they grow in the next six months, thanks to your generosity! We have learned over the years that at the primary age level students will learn more through playing and actively applying those skills than they do by listening to a teacher or doing a worksheet. \r\n\r\nOne of the items that was donated that we use a lot is the alphabet bean bags. We initially used it as a curriculum extra to help students learn the different letters and sounds. We did this by playing bean bag toss where a student had to say the letter and the letter sound before they were able to attempt to toss the bean bag into the bucket. We also used the bean bags to help with learning the correct order of the alphabet. We did this by using the bean bags to build the alphabet as a class. Now students are using the alphabet bean bags to sound out and build CVC words. During small group instruction, we give each other words to build and a student will have sort through the provided letters of bean bags to find the corresponding sounds and build the words. \r\n\r\nAnother item that we use in our learning is the shape bean bags. We often use that in games like what's in the bag or what's my shape. For what's in the bag, we put a shape in the bag without the class seeing and then we describe the attributes of the shape and the class tries to guess what shape is in our bag. I use the game what's my shape as an assessment, where I will pull students one at a time and describe a shapes attributes to them. Then they have to choose the correct shape based on those attributes. \r\n\r\nThere are several other items from your donations that we have been able to enjoy in our classroom, such as the sticky easel pad. We have used this pad to help create numerous anchor charts that hang in our classroom as a reference for our students. It's a perfect way for them to easily access all their materials and build responsibility.\r\n\r\nWe have started some creative projects with our paints as well.
